Looking for a wedding entertainer can be exhausting. But some couples make it harder on themselves than it needs to be. If you’re reading this, I’m guessing that you’re one of the couples that wants to make it easy. High fiving you right now!

Deciding to include live entertainment in your wedding day is a big step. An even bigger one is trying to navigate the mountain of misinformation, ‘helpful’ websites, friends, forums, and – let’s be honest – complete noise.

The three biggest mistakes we see couples make and that cause the most overwhelm, are:

1. Not knowing what you want
2. Following timelines on non-wedding music sites
3. Relying on Google, Facebook and Instagram

1. Not Knowing What You Want

Knowing what you want before reaching out to wedding entertainers is vital. Don’t waste your precious time researching the “most popular wedding songs” or scrolling #weddingmusician on Instagram for hours.

Think about your favourite songs – the ones that make you laugh, the ones that get you wanting to jump for joy, the songs you’ll love sharing with family and friends, and the tunes that will have you wiping tears of happiness. But most importantly, the ones you want to remember forever.

Then ask yourself: are those songs too spread out in style and genre for one band, or is a DJ a better fit to play them all, or even a band and DJ for later in the night?

Finally, don’t get swept up by the hype around a ‘must-have’ act if they’re not what you want or need.

You are the boss here 😉 Your choices set the tone for your day.

2. Following Non-wedding Music Directory Timelines

I could scream when I see those generic timelines that tell couples when to book entertainers. Unfortunately, you can’t burn the internet (yet).

Many non-music-related wedding sites try to help with planning timelines to reduce stress. But when it comes to music, they often miss the mark.

With all good intentions some suggest contacting entertainers 12 months before your wedding date, which simply isn’t the best plan. In those early stages of planning, there’s still too many variables that are easily changed for you to lock in an entertainer. You may still be deciding on the atmosphere that you’d like at your reception, or for some, even the venues or performance spaces are still uncertain.

Our best advice for Australian couples: focus on booking the venue, celebrant, and other non-changeable suppliers 12 months out. Leave booking your musicians to about 6–9 months before your big day – and bonus points if you already know your ‘special moment’ songs!

3. Relying on Google and Social Media

It’s no surprise that most of us turn to Google and AI first to find wedding entertainment. There’s a tonne of options, and it’s the obvious place to start.

But here’s the kicker – it shouldn’t be.

Why? Because Google loves great SEO and paid ads. So what you see on the first page is usually the companies or entertainers who have nailed their marketing game, not necessarily the right fit for you.

And the same goes for social media. You might check out acts with awesome Insta profiles and glowing reviews, but there’s an algorithm deciding what you get to see. That can mean you’re missing out on musicians you’re really looking for.

Why are these big mistakes?

Because you’re taking the long road without knowing if they even truly suit your needs until you’ve wasted hours chasing after them.

Take this real example. We worked with a particularly gorgeous couple who ended up having a really short time frame to organise their wedding. They’d completely forgotten about the entertainment as they initially just couldn’t decide, so they put it on the backburner.

Both spent countless hours Googling terms like “wedding ceremony musician”, “musicians for weddings”, “wedding bands Sydney”, etc. The partner tried Facebook and Instagram searches too.

Guess what results they got.

Exhaustion

Yep. Exhaustion and a good dose of frustration.
And a list of acts that just didn’t fit with what they wanted.

How? Because they only had websites and socials to judge by. They didn’t know prices, locations, song lists, or even availability – not until they spent 30+ minutes chasing down each option.

Thirty minutes might not sound like much, but when you’re deep in wedding planning with a never-ending to-do list, it adds up fast.

What’s the alternative?

Get the entertainers to come to you. Seriously, why wouldn’t you?

Think of us as the Uber Eats of wedding musicians

Why go hunting for quotes when our acts bring them straight to you (yeah, we just did that).

It makes perfect sense. Just put your feet up, tell us what you want and our entertainers send you their quotes.

And best of all? No chasing, no endless Googling, no Instagram rabbit holes.

So if you want to snack on (sorry, couldn’t resist) entertainment quotes in your PJ’s instead of draining hours searching on your phone, hit the button below, fill out one simple form, and we’ll do the rest.
